A funeral service for Claudia Estella George, 1503 County Road 150, Gypsum, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Rifle. The Rev. Dene Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Rifle Moose Cemetery.
Mrs. George died Sunday after a lengthy illness at E. Dene Moore Memorial Home in Rifle. She was 67.
She was born Jan. 20, 1922, to Harold Merrill and Elizabeth Margaret Bewsher Beard in Florence. At the age of 6 months, she moved with her family to Rifle where she spent her childhood. She attended schools in Rifle and graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1941.
She was active in the 4-H Club, and at 17 she won the Colorado State Cow Milkers Championship. She attended beauty school and operated a beauty shop for two years.
She married Burt Alfred George on Oct. 1, 1941 in Rifle. He survives.
Mrs. George lived on the Rifle Creek Ranch for 15 years. She and her husband ran a dude ranch, Trails End, in Granby for two years, and ran the 7-W Guest Ranch in Sweetwater for 23 years. They retired and sold the ranch.
Mrs. George was a member of Women of the Moose of Rifle for 44 years and served as regent for the organization. She was a member of the Rifle Creek Extension Homemakers Club for more than 30 years. She also was a 4-H Club leader in Garfield County for 17 years.
Additionally, she was a member of the Colorado State Dude Ranch Association, a life member of the Guide and Outfitters Association, and a member of the Colorado chapter of Colorado Guide and Outfitters, with which she served as secretary for 12 years.
Mrs. George loved working with flowers, cake decorating, gardening, crafts, fishing, traveling and cooking.
Other survivors include a son, Harold of Wray; two daughters, Carolyn Robinson of New Castle, and Marlene Cline of Rifle; a brother, Clifford Beard of Bountiful, Utah; a sister, Irene Wilson of Rifle; and six grandchildren.
A brother, Ernest Beard, and two grandchildren, Eileen and Daniel Robinson, are deceased.
Social Security had her last residence as Gypsum, Eagle County, Colorado. Social Security had the death date as 17 Jul 1989 but her obituary reported she died on Sunday which was 16 Jul 1989. 2
