He lived with his father and stepmother in Mexico from abour 1889 to 1896. At the time of the 1900 census, William was a farm laborer in Bandera County, Texas. At the time of the 1910 census, he was a general farmer in McCulloch County, Texas. He rented his farm. They lived next to his brother Zeno's family. When he registered for the WWI draft on 12 Sep 1918, he was farming in Bay City, Matagorda County, Texas. His wife, Willie Ann, was his nearest relative. (medium height and build, blue eyes, brown hair) At the time of the 1920 and 1930 census, he was a general farmer in McCulloch County. He was paying a mortgage on his home in 1920. The 1930 census showed that he rented his home. He lived in Brady, McCulloch County, Texas before going to the state home. He lived in the Kerrville State Home his last 4 years.

Willie married Willie Ann Wingfield, daughter of Harmon Holcomb Wingfield and Virginia Manasses Sample, in 1904. (Willie Ann Wingfield was born on 21 Apr 1887 in Texas, died on 6 Jun 1955 in , Bandera County, Texas ⁹ and was buried in Placid Cemetery, Placid, McCulloch County, Texas ⁹.). The cause of her death was carcinoma of breast.⁶
