  General Notes:

He lived with his father and stepmother in Mexico from about 1889 to 1896. At the time of the 1900 census, Ceaborn was a farm laborer in Bandera County, Texas. He was living with his mother. He was listed in his father's household that same census year in Edwards County, Texas.

Daughter Iva Stapleton Sims said he worked hard from age 7 until he died. He and Viola met in West Texas. They grew up together because the Wingfields and Stapleton's lived near each other. They lived a day's trip by wagon from any town. He followed his brother William to the area between Rochelle and Brady in McCulloch County, Texas.

At the time of the 1910 census, he was a general farmer in McCulloch County, Texas. He rented his farm. His brother, William Stapleton, his wife Willie Ann and 2 year old son Zeno lived beside them.

After Sammy was born, he moved the family to the coast along the Gulf of Mexico seeking work. He worked as a carpenter, farmed, worked cows, whatever he could do to find work. When he registered for the WWI draft on 12 Sep 1918, he lived on RFD 1, Bay City, Matagorda County, Texas. He was farming. His wife Sophronie was his nearest relative. (Medium height, blue eyes, brown hair.) At the time of the 1920 census, Zeno was a general farmer in Matagorda County, Texas. He rented his home. Iva Sims said they had plenty of milk, butter, hogs to butcher, turkey, chicken and things they could grow in the garden if they lived somewhere they could have a garden. But there were a lot of things they were hungry for, such a fruits, cakes, and pies. It was like that for everyone then.

When they came back from the coast, they had to borrow money for the train. Zeno put the family in the passenger car and he rode with the 2 mules and a few cows in the back of the train. They went to Brady where they picked cotton for his brother Willie to get enough money. Then they moved on to Placid where they started school. Zeno leased land there and they had plenty to eat.

At the time of the 1930 census, Zeno was a rancher of sheep and goats in Burnet County, Texas. He owned his home in Marble Falls, Burnet County. It was valued at $800. He was not a veteran. Social Security had his last residence as Abilene, Taylor County, Texas. His daughter Leola Steiner was the informant on his death certificate and gave his mother's name as Virginia Anderson. 9
