Isabella's parents were William P. and Mary A. Read, both born in Kentucky. At the time of the 1970 census, the family was living in White Rock, Hunt County, Texas. Her father was a minister of the gospel. Her siblings were Alice, Joanna, Henrietta, and Sophronia. Alice was born in Kentrucky. The rest were born in Texas. The family was still in Hunt County, Texas, in 1880. Alice, Isabella, Henrietta, and Sophronia were still at home.

She was a widow when she married Columbus Monroe Head. Her daughter Lillie P. Claunch was living with her and Columbus at the time of the 1900 census. Her sister, Henrietta M. Read born Jul 1863, was living with the family in 1900. At that time, Isabella had borne 2 children and both were still living. Her sister Henrietta was still living with the family in 1910 and 1920.

There are no dates on her tombstone.
