  General Notes:

Columbus Monroe Head evidently did not marry at a very early age because both Chet Ritchie and Marion Head told the following which occurred when they were about five or six years old. It goes, "Grandma was worried because Uncle Roy (pronounced Ro-e) had not married and settled down. Finally he did, and when Grandma was shown a picture of his first child, she was content. It was then that Grandma decided to rest forever. She called all her loved ones to her bedside, bade each one farewell with either a kiss or a handshake, drew a deep breath, and was gone.

At the time of the 1900 census, Columbus was a farmer in Johnson County, Texas. He owned his farm free of mortgage. His stepdaughter Lillie P. Claunch and sister in law Henrietta M. Read were listed in his household. At the time of the 1910 census, Columbus was paying a mortgage to own his farm (general farm) in Johnson County, Texas. By 1920, the family had moved to Carroll County, Arkansas. Columbus was paying a mortgage on his home. His occupation was listed as general farming.

The story goes that Columbus being old and ill came back to where he was born to be with family at the time of death and to be buried with his wife in the cemetery where he had secured three grave spots which are a matter of record. He called for his son Chester and wife Flossie to come from Louisiana to nurse him to the grave. Flossie was pregnant at the time and Drexel was born in the Bethany Community while they were here. Flossie and Myrtle Head (Walton's wife), both young women at the time were the closest of friends during this one to two year period. 8
