When he registered for the WWI draft on 12 Sep 1918, he was farming for himself in Comanche County, Texas. His wife was his nearest relative. At the time of the 1920 census, he was farming a truck farm in Comanche County, Texas. He was paying a mortgage on his home in the town of Comanche in that county. In 1930, Joseph was running a stock farm. He owned his home in Comanche County, Texas. He died while sitting in a chair reading.

The cause of her death was coronary occlusion.
