  General Notes:

The 1860 and 1870 census records I found for this family have problems (conflicts) with records in the family bible and 1880 census record. Some names changed between census years and some ages were given wrong. These are noted on the individual records.--Rose Lee Wall 2009

At the time of the 1860 census, James was a farmer in Monroe County, Tennessee (PO Sweetwater). He had real estate valued at $300 and personal assets of $200. At the time of the 1870 census, he was a farm laborer in Monroe County, Tennessee (PO Tellico Plains). He had $175 in personal assets.

By the time of the 1880 census, the family had moved to Travis County, Texas. James has a 1 year old son born in Tennessee, so the move was within the past year. (It was 1879 according to family notes.) James is listed as a farmer. His father's birthplace was shown as North Carolina, the mother's as Tennessee.

The family moved to Star, Texas, in 1885.

At the time of the 1900 census, James owned his farm in Mills County, Texas, free of any mortgage. Both parents were shown as born in Tennessee. By the time of the 1910 census, James had become widowed. He was listed with his daughter Martha'and her husband Charles Schwarz's family in Runnels County, Texas. He was shown to have his own income. This time he went back to the earlier report that his father was born in North Carolina, the mother in Tennessee.

Served in the Civil War on the Confederate side. 37th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry (7th Infantry) (first East Tennessee Rifles) Company G. Went in as First Sergeant. Came out as Second Lieutenant. Film Number: M231 roll 5

Record shows him as James Walton Bradley.
Also death record in county files shows him as James Walton Bradley.
