Her father was born in New York, the mother in Pennsylvania. At the time of the 1900 census, she had not had children. In the 1910 census, she listed her occupation as dressmaker out of her home. By 1940 Emma was widowed and living in rented space at 227 E. Ave, Rifle, Garfield County, Colorado. She had a rural address in 1935 in the same county. She reported that she had completed 2 years of high school. She was no longer able to work.

Emma married Jacob Willard Brosius, son of George Washington Brosius and Mary E. Casey, on 15 Jul 1889 in Glenwood Springs, Garfield County, Colorado.¹ (Jacob Willard Brosius was born in 1865 in Missouri,⁷ died in 1933 in Colorado ⁷ and was buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rifle, Garfield County, Colorado ¹⁰.)

The marriage license showed Jacob's residence as Leadville, Lake County, Colorado and Emma's as Eagle County, Colorado. The marriage was performed by Leonard G. Thompson, minister of the gospel. The witnesses were Mrs. O. H. Watson and Mr. F. A. Barlow.
