  General Notes:

According to a sworn affidavit in R. A. Reid's pension file, a cousin, James N. Reid got to know R. A. Reid in 1859, when he (James) went to "Polk County East Tennessee from the state of Mississippi to attend school at Benton Academy." Robert A. Reid later lived in Pinemount, Suwannee County, Florida. He served as the clerk of Circuit Court, Suwannee County, Florida. At the time of the 1880 census, Robert and wife Hattie lived in Suwannee County, Florida with his 2 nieces, F.L. Green, S.J. Green, and a nephew, Francis M. Green. He was a farmer and clerk. He was recorded as a merchant on the 1885 Florida State Census in Suwannee County. He and Hattie had 2 children by then. 1

• Military Service: Lieutenant, Capt. R. M. O'neal's Company B, 29th Tennessee Infantry, Confederate States Army, 19 Jul 1861, 1 Jun 1865. 1 He had enlisted in M. H. Hancock's Company. During the Battle of Chickamauga, 19 Sep 1863, he was shot through the left eye by a Yankee mini-ball, which exited under his right ear, breaking of a large portion of the jaw bone. He suffered health problems for the remainder of his life. According to records in his military file, his name "appears on a list, supposed to be a list of prisoners of war surrendered by Major General Sam Jones May 10, 1865, and paroled June 1, 1865, at Albany Georgia."
