William Zeno Stapleton, a native of Kerrville, died Saturday, May 20, at 9:45 p.m. in a Seattle, Washington, hospital, reportedly due to cancer, at the age of 47 years. He had been confined to the Harbor-View hospital for eight days.
Deceased had worked at one time in Fredericksburg as an electrician for a former electric firm here.
Survivors include two children by a former marriage, Mrs. Sam (Carol) Grobe of Fredericksburg, and Douglas Stapleton, also of Fredericksburg; his wife and two children, John Wesley and Nina Marie, by his second marriage, of San Francisco.
Graveside services were scheduled to be held at Leakey, Texas, on Thursday of this week, at 3 p.m., under direction of Plummer-Fair Funeral home where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Also surviving are two brothers and two sisters: Kathryn, Mrs. Vernon Peel of Kerrville; Mabel, Mrs. Pat Ellis of Kerrville; Steve Stapleton of New Braunfels, and Jollie Roy Stapleton, Garden City, Calif.
Also surviving are two grandchildren: Garett and Brent Grobe.
Stapleton has served two tours of duty with the U.S. Navy, the first during World War II on the U.S.S. Idaho.
