Weldon Flavil Lewis died Oct. 22, 2011 after a courageous eight month struggle with multiple surgical complications. Born Sept. 25, 1933 in Beeville, TX the only child of Arthur Weldon Lewis and Iris Phillips Lewis, Weldon grew up in Falfurrias, TX. He graduated from Texas A&I in 1958 following 2 years service in the United States Army, which included a tour in South Korea. Weldon and Joyce Ann Soper were married in Odessa, TX April 20, 1962.
His career was spent working for various subsidiaries of El Paso Natural Gas Company. He was a founding director of Texas Intrastate Gas Association. Weldon and Joyce moved to Weston Lakes in Fort Bend County in 1992 and he became a full time golfer. His grandchildren have many happy memories of Pop and his golf cart.
Weldon is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joyce Lewis; his daughter, Mary Beth Lewis and husband Roy Lee Carter of Chapel Hill, NC; his son, John Arthur Lewis and wife Julie Burton Lewis of Chicago, IL; and 3 grandchildren, Price Lewis Carter, Blythe Allison Carter and Nathaniel Weldon Lewis.
Interment will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 31, 2011, at the Smithwick Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church of Fulshear, with Rev. Alicia Coltzer officiating.
