At the time of the 1930 census, Lawton was working in Mills County, Texas, as a shearer. The family rented their home on a farm. His last occupation was fireman/civil service.

Social Security had his last residence as Gatesville, Coryell County, Texas.

J. L. McBeth Dies; Funeral Services Today
James Lawton McBeth, 62, of Westview Addition, Gatesville, died at 2:10 p.m. Wednesday in a Waco hospital. He had resided in Gatesville the last 24 years.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church here and will be conducted by Rev. Kenneth Patrick, Rev. Dwayne Martin and Rev. Lowell Skaggs. Burial will be in the Pidcoke Cemetery with Scott's in charge.

Mr. McBeth was born in Coryell County Dec. 20, 1906, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ben F. McBeth. He was reared at Pidcoke and lived in Goldthwaite from 1926 to 1928. He then resided in Pidcoke from 1931 until moving to Gatesville in 1945. He was married to Miss Jewel Reid Dec 25, 1927.

Mr. McBeth formerly operated a grocery story in Pidcoke and then worked for the fire departments at Fort Hood and Killeen Base before ill health forced his retirement in 1959. He has been an antique dealer in Gatesville.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church board of deacons and was one of the church's leading laymen.

Surviving are his wife of Gatesville; one son, Wayland McBeth of Killeen; one daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Von Dell) Nesbitt of Seabrook; two brothers, T. L. McBeth of Lovington, N.M. and Robert McBeth of Lake Wales, Fla.; four sisters, Mrs. Nadine Pettys of Gatesville, Mrs. Maybell Trenckman of Gatesville, Mrs. Louise Moss of Lovington, N.M. and Miss Juanita McBeth of Lindsey, Okla.; and five grandchildren.

A brother, Melvin McBeth died in 1963. 6
