Tommy attended Ranger College and Texas Tech University. He served in the U.S. Navy as a radio man and taught radio in the Naval reserve unit in Lubbock. He worked in the automobile business most of his life and owned and operated Economy Motors Inc. He was a member of South Plains Church of Christ.
