In the 1930 census, Sam listed his occupation as laborer, odd jobs. He operated a service station for several years. He was employed at the Abilene State School for Boys long enough to earn a pension. His last residence was Abilene, Taylor County, Texas. He had lived there 20 years.

Funeral Held Here November 3 for Sam Head, 74, of Abilene

Funeral services for Sam J. Head, Sr., of Abilene, Texas, were held Saturday, November 3, 1984 at 2:00 P.M. from the Wilkins Funeral Home Chapel, Goldthwaite, Texas. Interment was in the Center City Cemetery, Mills County, Texas.

He passed away Wednesday, October 31, 1984 at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene. He was 74 years of age.

Sam Head was born in Center City, Texas on February 4, 1910. His parents were Calvin Madison and Alice Bula Miles Head.

He lived in Abilene for the past twenty years. He was retired from the Abilene State School. His church affiliation was Baptist.

Survivors include one son, Sam Head, Jr. of Humble, Texas; two daughters, Joyce Brown and Alynene Parker, both of Pasadena; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three brothers, Faira Head of Caradan, and Woodrow Head and Truitt Head, both of Granbury; and two sisters, Ozella Sparkman of Crawford and Laura Mason of Center City.

The funeral service was officiated by Rev. Orion Lewis, pastor of the First United Methodist Church in Goldthwaite, Texas.

Pallbearers werer Ronnie Head, John A. Head, Darrell Head, James Grady, Sam Parker, Bill Sparkman, Jr., and Scott Grady.
