He married Florence Etta Jane Patterson. Their son Howard Hillard Newby married Oma B. Banks. Their daughter Margaret Newby, who first married Roger L. Sumlin and then Floyd Eddy Swanzy, did a tremendous amount of research on the Newby family and published The Newby Book.
