   Cause of his death was hepatic coma, adenocarcinoma of stomach with liver metastasis.³

He owned a lot of property in 1916/1917 near Venis and Auburn, Ellis County, Texas. He couldn't get his crops in and lost everything. He spent 6 months in a mental institution at Terrell, Texas. During that time a man who owned a grocery store let his wife and children live in a room in the back and work for him. After Tom was released from the hospital, he had lost the ambition to own property. He worked as a tenant farmer the rest of his life. Tom gave his parent's birth places as well as his own as Arkansas on the 1920 census. At the time of the 1920 census, he was a farm laborer working out in Hill County, Texas. He lived in Alvarado, Johnson County, Texas, most of his life. ⁵

Tom married Lillie Elgin Wilmoth, daughter of Francis M. Wilmoth and Mary A. Copeland. (Lillie Elgin Wilmoth was born on 13 Dec 1885 in , Ellis County, Texas,⁶ died on 13 Feb 1972 in Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas ⁶ and was buried in Bethany Cemetery, Alvarado, Johnson County, Texas ^{4 6}.). The cause of her death was acute circulatory collapse, lobar pneumonia, multiple myeloma.³
