His birth place was given as Arkansas on the 1910 census and his death certificate. It was given as Texas on the 1920 and 1930 census. At the time of the 1910 census, he was living in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, with wife Jennie and son Allie. When Thomas registered for the WWI draft on 12 Sep 1918, he was a carpenter for Wills Point Oil Company of Wills Point, Van Zandt County, Texas. He was disabled by an artificial left eye. His wife, Willie Belle, was his nearest relative. They lived in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas.

At the time of the 1920 census, Thomas was farming a general farm in Prairie, Carroll County, Arkansas, right next to his father in law Columbus Monroe Head. He rented his home. His birth place was shown as Texas. His household consisted of wife Willie B., son Allie R. 10, daughter Irene B. 7, (both born in Tennessee) and Thomas C. 5/12 (born in Arkansas). At the time of the 1930 census, he was a cotton farmer in Grayson County, Texas.

His occupation was shown as carpenter on the death certificate. The informant was son, A. F. Ferguson.
