Johnie Kathleen Thomas was born in Navarro County near Corsicana to Daniel Augustus Thomas and Elizabeth Nevett Ford Thomas. She was the second child and first daughter and had brown eyes like her Dad. She was known as a dreamer and loved being a little mother to the youngest Thomases, Dan and Helen often taking them on outings and to the movies. She was married in 1931 and had a son Kenneth Byrl Head on August 25, 1933. She was murdered in front of her son in 1936, 5 days before his 3rd birthday. Unfortunately, the murderer was in a robbery ring which also included some local authorities. The murder was ruled a suicide. The Thomases considered fighting this but with the tremendous grief they were going through, nothing was done. They did take her son to raise and loved him very much. He had a daughter and named her Kathleen after his mother. She has another namesake, her brother Dan named one of his daughters Kathleen. Many of us wish we could have known her and her death is an example of how murder can effect generations to come.
