At the time of the 1920 census, Thorpe was an auto repairman for California Product Company. He rented his home in Fresno County, California.
At the time of the 1930 census, Thorpe was a mechanic in an automobile garage. He was divorced and living in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, with his three children. He owned his home valued at $3800. He indicated that he was not a veteran of a war.
The California Death Index showed his birth date as 11 May 1890.
