![]() General Notes: LESTER MATTHEW COX, 91, of Memphis, born September 11, 1920 near Ashland, Mississippi, died October 27, 2011. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946, worked as a carpenter and construction superintendent before going into business with partner John T. Matlock to form C& M Builder in 1968 and worked until his retirement in 1987. He dedicated his retirement to caring for his wife, Sarah Cox, who passed away in 1994. He was an accomplished woodworker and craftsman and enjoyed creating items of beauty and sharing his talent with others. He was an active member of Audubon Park Baptist Church and spent many hours there helping with building maintenance and construction. He was a dedicated and devoted father and touched many people with his caring nature and sense of humor. Lester leaves two children, Frances Cox Knepper (Dan) of Hendersonville, TN and Paul M. Cox (Lee) of Memphis, TN. He is survived by a brother, Clovis Cox of Ashland, MS. Services to be held at Memphis Funeral Home on Poplar at 10 a.m., Saturday, October 29, with private burial in Ashland, MS.
