His parents were probably John and Florence Bryant who were farming in Johnson County, Texas, at the time of the 1900 census. Both were born in Alabama. Their son Willie's birth date was given as May 1896 however. By the time of the 1910 census, there were 8 children in the family. Willie was the oldest. They lived in Alvarado, Johnson County, Texas. When he registered for the WWI draft on 5 Jun 1918, he was working for J.J. Head in Alvarado, Texas. (probably his future father in law John Jasper Head.) Jno Bryant was his nearest relative. He was listed as Bill with this same family on the 1920 census in Johnson County, Texas. There were 2 more children. He was a farm laborer. At the time of the 1930 census, Bill was a laborer on the state highway. He rented his home in Alvarado, Johnson County, Texas, for $10 a month. His birth date was Abt 1898.

He went by Bill and used J. William on Bobby's birth record. He used John Willie on his WWI draft registration. Social Security listed him as John Bryant. His last residence was Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas.

Bill married Allie S. Head, daughter of John Jasper Head and Susan E. McClure, on 22 Dec 1921 in , Johnson County, Texas. (Allie S.
