Charles Gray Pou, known as "Charlie" to his friends, passed away Thursday, Sept. 23, 2010, at a Burleson hospice.
He was born April 12, 1921, in College Station, Texas, the son of Walter L. and Inez (Graham) Pou. He attended public school in Cleburne, graduating from Cleburne High School in 1939. Charlie graduated from Texas A&M in 1943 and proudly served in the U.S. Army in World War II, stationed in England and France/Alsace Lorraine.
He married to Juanita "Nita" Marie Kennon on November 13, 1943. They divorced in 1969.
For most of his career he worked as an engineer at General Dynamics in Fort Worth and later ran his own business as a cabinet maker in Cleburne. He was a lifelong member at St. Mark United Methodist Church in Cleburne.
Preceded in death by brother, Wallace Graham Pou, and daughter, Teresa Claire Pou. Surviving are his children, Darryl Badgett and husband, James, Charles Gavin Pou and wife, Randy, Chauncey Pou, Patti Eubanks and husband, Ronald, and their mother, Juanita (Kennon) Head; brother, Walter L Pou Jr.; and grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.
Outspoken and enthusiastic, Charlie loved to tell others of his diverse interests which included bicycling, hiking and mountain climbing, fitness and good health, and later in life, his poetry which he was proud to have self-published in several collections. He was a longtime member of the Sierra Club, and continued to follow environmental issues throughout his life.
