Howard Knox Murphree 81, retired accounting clerk
Graveside service for Howard Knox Murphree, 81, of Decatur was to be today at 11 a.m. at Burningtree Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Al Helton and the Rev. Mark Posey officiating and Brown Service Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Murphree died Tuesday at Summerford Nursing Home. He was born October 3, 1912, in Remlap. He was a retired accounting clerk with U.S. Steel in Fairfield where he worked for 40 years and was a member of Central Park United Methodist Church of Birmingham. He was a graduate of Woodlawn High School in Birmingham. He served in the Army during World War II and in peacetime as a technical sergeant.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel Murphree; two daughters, Marilyn M. Whitson of Trinity and Diane M. Russ of Georgia; and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Tri-County Bible School and the American Cancer Society.
Howard married Mabel Lenderman.
