At the time of the 1900 census, the family lived in Leon County, Texas. His father was farming. His siblings were Osborn C., Lucy and Johnnie. All the children were born in Texas. At the time of the 1910 census, the family was in Comanche County, Texas. His father and brother Osborn were farming. The new siblings were Glinnis G., Mattie Bell, and Guy T. They were also born in Texas. When Edgar registered for the WWI draft, he was a self-employed farmer in Borden County, Texas. He was supporting his mother, sister and brothers. His mailing address was Fluvanna, Texas, which is in Scurry County. By the time of the 1920 census, his father had died. The family was in Scurry County, Texas, where his mother and the older boys were farming. The new siblings were Dellamay and Adelia.

He lived in Snyder, Scurry County, Texas, his last 39 years.
