Maude's parents were Joseph Myron Stout, born in Mississippi, and Victoria Hood, born in Illinois. At the time of the 1900 census, the family lived in Red River County, Texas, where her father farmed. At the time of the 1910 and 1920 census, her family was living in Alvarado, Johnson County, Texas, where her father and brothers farmed. Her mother was living with Perry and Maude in Cleburne, Johnson County, Texas, at the time of the 1930 census. Her daughter Mildred (Mrs. W. M. Leeth) was the informant on her death certificate.

Maude married Perry Allison Newby, son of James Thomas Newby and Susan Isabelle Roe. (Perry Allison Newby was born on 18 Jan 1894 in Alvarado, Johnson County, Texas,^{9 10} died on 3 Mar 1960 in Alvarado, Johnson County, Texas ¹⁰ and was buried on 5 Mar 1960 in Bethany Cemetery, Alvarado, Johnson County, Texas ^{7 10}.). The cause of his death was metastatic carcinoma of lungs, annular carcinoma of splenic flexure of colon.⁵
