Jess Edward Everett
General Notes: Jess Edward Everett, 87, of Snyder, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2014, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born on Oct. 14, 1926, in Borden County. Service for Mr. Everett will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Snyder. The Rev. Brian Adams will officiate. Interment will follow at Gail Cemetery under the direction of Bell-Cypert Seale Funeral Home. Visitation will follow immediately at the Borden County Event Center. Everyone is welcome to attend. Jess married Elda Jean Littlepage on July 23, 1948, in Snyder. Jess and Jean celebrated a wonderful life of 65 years together. Jess was truly blessed with a loving family and many friends. He was a longtime rancher in Borden and Scurry counties, owned and operated a farm and ranch supply store, enjoyed training cutting horses, and was a competitive calf roper, having won his last trophy buckle at the age of 57 at the Texas Cowboy Reunion in Stamford. Mr. Everett was an accomplished, self-taught artist, having won many awards, and was a member of the Palette Club. His oil paintings were of the landscapes and cattle and horses that he loved. He was a director of the Scurry County Rodeo Association for many years, a county commissioner and served on the hospital board. Jess professed his faith in Jesus Christ in 1955 and was active in the Methodist church, having served on the board of stewards, was a member of the men's Maverick Sunday school class and served on the building committee when the current sanctuary was erected. Jess was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944-46. Jess was serving on the USS Monterey on his way to Japan when the atomic bomb was dropped. The USS Monterey entered the Bay of Japan the day after the peace treaty was signed. Jess loved his country and was gravely concerned about his future. Jess was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Fay (Reeder) Everett; two brothers, Dub Everett and Donnie Everett; a foster brother, Roland Hamilton; and two nephews, Jimmy Don and Richard. Survivors include his wife, Jean; one sister, Dewey Fay Miller and her husband Ralph of Borden County; three chosen sons, Danny McCormack of Houston, Dave Appleton of Arlington, and Donnie Yorks of Valley City, Ohio, and their families; many loved nieces and nephews and their spouses, Ann Everett of Snyder, Tammy and Mike Valentine of Borden County, Becky and Chester Jackson of Borden County, Karen and Jay Waller of Ira, Debra Kesseler of Katy, Bryan Littlepage of Kenner, La., Bennie Johnson, Vanette Everett and Cynde Beverly; special great-nieces and great-nephews and their spouses, Rachel and Chris Maxfield of Snyder, Wes and Susan Everett of Lubbock, Kaci and Joel Lollar of Greenwood, Miller, Miles and Merik Valentine of Borden County, Elizabeth and Alex Littlepage of Kenner, and Krista, Kevin, and Kyler Kesseler of Katy; one brother-in-law, James Littlepage and his wife Jo Ann of Snyder; one sister-in-law, Billie Everett of Lubbock; and numerous special cousins and friends.
