His father was born in Missouri, his mother in Virginia. At the time of the 1930 census, Thomas was a restaurant buyer in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. He rented his home for $75 a month. Vernon Wilson, 22 born in Kentucky, was lodging with the family. Social Security had his last residence as Norfolk, Norfolk City, Virginia.

The cause of her death was cerebral hemorrhage due to chronic degenerative myocarditis and arteriosclerosis.
