According to the death certificate, Carl's parents were Gustaf Monson (Månsson) and Petrenala Johnson (Petronella Johansdotter), both born in Sweden.

When Carl registered for the WWI draft, he was a farmer in Manor, Texas. He had not become a citizen at that time. He requested an exemption based on the need to support his wife and 2 children.

At the time of the 1920 census, he was working as a house carpenter. He rented his home in Austin, Travis County, Texas. At the time of the 1930 census, he was a painter and paper hanger. He owned his home in Austin which was valued at $3200.

His last residence was Austin, Travis County, Texas. He was a grocer man.
