Services Held For C.R. Tirey, Ellis Pioneer

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Baptist Church in Maypearl, Ellis County, for C.R. Tirey, 87, who moved to Ellis County fifty-nine years ago in a covered wagon from Indiana.
He often told friends that when he crossed the Trinity River at Dallas, there were a few houses standing on the Oak Cliff side.
Mr. Tirey was born in 1852 in Lawrence County, Indiana. He settled on a farm in Ellis County fifty-six years ago and died at the old homestead Sunday morning.
He was a Mason and a Baptist. Services were conducted Monday afternoon by the Rev. E.R. Patterson of Midlothian. Burial was in the Maypearl Cemetery.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. J.R. Porter, Maypearl; Mrs. H.L. Price and Mrs. O.D. White, both of Wichita Falls; six sons, the Rev. E. Homer Tirey, Teague; Frank Tirey and Jacob Tirey, Waco; Henry Tirey, Dallas; Grover Tirey, Muskogee, Okla; and Shelby Tirey, Maypearl.

Caswell married Laura Alice Homer in 1871. (Laura Alice Homer was born in Feb 1857 in Indiana, died on 8 Jun 1926 in , Ellis County, Texas and was buried in Maypearl Cemetery, Maypearl, Ellis County, Texas ².)
