Guy Charles Leverett, 74, of Mullin, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018, in Abilene. Visitation was held Tuesday, March 6, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home in Goldthwaite. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Sta-cy-Wilkins Chapel. Interment will follow in Oakview Cem-etery in Mullin.
Guy was born Nov. 24, 1943, in Brownwood, Tex-as, to Charles Cyril and Inez Ritchie Leverett.
He grew up in Mills Coun-ty, learning to work hard from a very early age. He began working in the first grade with Roy Loudamy on the Mrs. Bairds bread truck. At age 9, Guy began working for Don Geeslin, learning how to raise and tend to turkeys. He quick-ly earned the admiration of Don and Della. Guy essential-ly became part of their fami-ly and worked for Don until 1970, when Guy and his wife, Annette, moved to Mullin.
Guy graduated from Goldthwaite High School in 1962, and attended Tarleton State University for one year. He then decided to return to work for Don in the tur-key business. In 1965, Guy met his sweetheart and love of his life, Annette Murray. They married June 11, 1966, in Mullin, Texas, and had two boys, Charlie and Joe Murray. They moved their family to Mullin, and Guy started his own turkey farm, teaching his young sons the business as they grew. The turkey farm was in operation until 1983, when he started Leverett En-terprises. Guy and Annette opened Kreations in 1985, and worked alongside each other daily, running the business until 2011, when Guy decided to retire to spend more time with his family and grand-children. At the time of his passing, Guy and Annette had been married 51 years and were more in love than the day they wed.
Guy had many hobbies and interests, including square dance calling, and cooking alongside his two sons in barbecue competitions all over the state, winning many awards and earning invita-tions to the World Series of Barbecue at the American Royal in Kansas City, Mis-souri. Guy named their team "It'll Do BBQ," and loved spending this time with his family. Guy loved his family and taught his sons the impor-tance of hard work, honesty, and keeping your word. He loved the Lord and was a life-long member of the Church of Christ.
Guy passed away on March 3, 2018, in Abilene, Texas. He is survived by his wife, Annette, of Mullin; two sons, Charlie Leverett, and wife Carla, of Goldthwaite, and their daughter, Reagan, of Temple; Joe Leverett, and wife, Kristi, of Goldthwaite, and their children, Lainey and Jacob; and numerous close friends and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gary A. Leverett.
In lieu of flowers, the fami-ly requests donations be made to the Goldthwaite Church of Christ building fund. 1
Guy married Bessie Annette Murray, daughter of William Elvin Murray and Anna Dean Hickman.
