At the time of the 1900 and 1910 census, he was farming his own farm in Mills County, Texas. At the time of the 1920 census, he and daughter Leslie were living in Mills County, Texas, where he farmed. He was paying a mortgage on his home. At the time of the 1930 census, he was a general farmer in Scurry County, Texas. (Royal Bynum, son in law, was supposed to make payments as his lease on the farm, but let it get repossed by the bank.) He was married to Minnie, 20 years his junior.
