PALO PINTO - Donald John Hoover, 76, of Lone Camp Community, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at his home.
A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
Don was born May 29, 1932, in Lawton, Okla., to John Francis and Merle Victoria (Collins) Hoover. His childhood years were spent in the Lone Camp community. While a teenager his family moved to Fort Worth where he completed high school. Don was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in Korea. He returned to be a Fort Worth policeman. He married Alice Sparkman on April 27, 1957, in Fort Worth. He returned to Lone Camp in 1967 where he worked as an A&P; mechanic at Southern Airways, was a trapper for Palo Pinto County and worked for the Palo Pinto County road construction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, raising goats and most of all spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and as a Christian man he taught us the most valuable lessons in life. He has given each of us many precious memories.
Don is survived by his wife, Alice Hoover, of Lone Camp; his children, Donna Winbourn and husband, Tim, of Lone Camp, Linda Gamble and husband, Craig, of McKinney, Texas, and John Hoover and wife, Holly, of Lone Camp; a brother, Pat Hoover and wife, Carrie, of Newark, Texas; and six grandchildren, Meghann Skalak and husband, Wes, Josh Winbourn and wife, Heather, Ashley Ritchey and husband, Josh, Kiley and Coby Gamble and Christopher Hoover; two great-grandchildren and one due in September; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Hoover; and a sister, Betty Hoover Franklin. 4
