OBITUARY

Florence Evelyn Show Thompson was born to Florence Elizabeth Patterson Show and Earl Jewel Show on October 18, 1917 in Chariton, IA. She passed away quietly on May 7, 2002 at the age of 84.

Evelyn graduated from Franklin High School in Chariton and later graduated from Ottumwa Beauty School. She was working as a beautician in Ames, IA when she met her future husband.

She was united in marriage to Chester Wallace Thompson on February 18, 1940. They settled in Peoria, IL where they had two children, Elizabeth Ann in 1942 and Raymond Wallace in 1944.

They moved to Baton Rouge, LA in 1950 where they raised their family except for a year in the Dominican Republic and a year in Knoxville, TN. In 1960 they moved to Houston, TX, where Evelyn resided until last September, 2001 when she moved to Lakewood, CO and later passed away.

Evelyn was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed homemaking, sewing and her family. Her life was rich from living in different places and travel, of which she was very proud. During her retirement years she toured the U.S. and Canada. Later she enjoyed crafts, puzzles, senior center activities and her family.

Visitation was held at Fielding's Funeral Home on May 11, 2002. Services were conducted at the graveside in Chariton Cemetery by Pastor Bill Kerns on the same day.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, Evadna Pearl Show Oxley & Eloise Show Mulcahy and one granddaughter, Karlotte Lynn Thompson Ross.

She is survived by her daughter Ann and husband, John S Howard of Fairplay, CO; her son, Raymond, and wife, Judy Holder of Sugar Land, TX; two grandchildren, Kenneth Wayne Thompson and wife Melinda Marie Mongan Thompson & great grandchild, James Wallace Thompson of Sugar Land, TX; Kerri Ann Thompson of Sugar Land, TX; her cousin, Hazel Show of Chariton; another cousin Don Willis and wife, Helen, of Chariton; and three nieces: Carolyn Ann Mulcahy Richardson & family of Camanche, IA; Sharon Lynn Mulcahy Corbin & family of Camanche, IA; Susan Oxley Kline & family of La Mesa, CA.

Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.

Sissy married Chester Wallace Thompson on 18 Feb 1940. (Chester Wallace Thompson was born on 15 Jul 1916, died in Feb 1989 and was buried in Sunset Memorial Park, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas ².)
