GOLDTHWAITE - Shelby Haggerton, 79, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, in a local nursing home. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Andice Cemetery.
Survivors include sons Travis Haggerton of Center City, John Kalka of Rock Springs and Scott Gitchell of Missouri; and daughters Kathy Evans of Priddy, Jessie Gitchell and Tracy Garza, both of Austin, and Jody Gitchell of Washington.

Shelby Haggerton
Shelby Haggerton of Goldthwaite, Texas, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Goldthwaite Senior Health Center at Goldthwaite, Texas. He was 79 years of age. He had moved to Goldthwaite in 2005 from Florence, Texas.
Mr. Haggerton was born October 22, 1928 at Camp Wood, Texas, the son of Charlie and Rosie Lee (Bishop) Haggerton. He married Mattie Jewel Whitley on December 16, 1975 at Goldthwaite, Texas.
Mr. Haggerton was a Baptist. He earned his living as a cedar chopper and a truck driver.
Survivors are three sons, Travis Haggerton of Center City, Texas, John Kalka of Rock Springs, Texas, and Scott Gitchell of Missouri; four daughters, Kathy Evans of Priddy, Texas, Jessie Gitchell and Tracy Garza, both of Austin, Texas, and Jody Gitchell of Washington State; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charlie Haggerton; daughter, Carolyn Grube; and his wife, Mattie.
The body lay in state at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home, Goldthwaite, Texas, until graveside rites were conducted at Andice Cemetery, Andice, Texas, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2008.
Social Security had his last residence as Florence, Williamson County, Texas.
Pops married Virgie Inez Evans, daughter of William M. Evans and Hilda L. Loyd.
