At the time of the 1880 census, he was boarding with Isaac and Emma Beckner in Whitesburg, Hamblen County, Tennessee and working as a clerk in the post office. At the time of the 1900 and 1910 census, he was a merchant in Burnet County, Texas. He owned his home free of mortgage. In 1910, his niece Nannie L. 22, and brother in law, William Faubion were part of his household. He was in the mercantile business in Corpus Christi.
