![]() General Notes: "William served in the Confederate States Army as an associate of General Nathan Forrest, a friend of his father. His family stayed in his parent's home while he was 'off to war', and "Yankee soldiers were often at Sallie's looking for William. Once (they came) and took over the upstairs for their housing. His infant son Joseph was ill, and the soldiers upstairs were being rowdy & noisy and were asked to be quiet so the infant could sleep. They didn't cooperate and the child died in the night." After the war, William was one of the many who did not return to make their home in East Tennessee. He died in Georgia and when his parents moved to Texas, they took his family with them." ![]() William married Elizabeth Clementine Wells on 4 Mar 1858. (Elizabeth Clementine Wells was born on 10 Apr 1839 in Leicester, Buncombe County, North Carolina, died in Aug 1891 and was buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Marble Falls, Burnet County, Texas.) |
