At the time of the 1870 census, George was a (Methodist) minister of gospel in Burnet County, Texas. His young family lived next to his father in law Josiah Fowler. He had real estate valued at $1000 and personal assets of $500.

George married Mary Priscilla Fowler, daughter of Josiah Fowler and Rebecca McCamey Yett, on 23 May 1866 in , Burnet County, Texas.¹ (Mary Priscilla Fowler was born on 20 Aug 1846 in , Cocke County, Tennessee,⁴ died on 28 May 1947 in Waco, McLennan County, Texas ⁴ and was buried on 29 May 1947 in Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas ⁴.). The cause of her death was myocardial degeneration; great age.
