Jetta Turley Flournoy

On Saturday, September 19th, 2009, the Lord reached His hand down and took Jetta Mae home. No more suffering, no more pain, only joy with her heavenly Father.

Jetta Mae Turley Flournoy was born to J.B. and Bertha Turley on October 25, 1931, in Sherman, Texas. After moving to Baytown, Texas, with her family when she was a young girl, Jetta Mae was schooled in the Baytown School District, graduating in 1950 from Robert E. Lee High School. One of Jetta Mae's proudest times during her high school years, was being a member of the Brigadiers, Lee's Drum and Bugle Corp. Just before graduating from high school, she married Alfred Flournoy of Highlands, Texas. They made their life in Pasadena, Texas where Jetta Mae worked for Sears for many years. After leaving Sears, she began a new career working for various contractors in NASA's SFOC Technical Library. She had many wonderful friends that she enjoyed working with before her retirement. She was a member of the Baptist faith.

Preceding her in death were both her mother Bertha Turley and her father J.B. Turley. Left to cherish her memories are her daughter M'Lissa, and her husband Dave Christopherson, of Coupeville, Washington. She was also most proud of her pride and joy, her grandson Duke Carlisle, and his wife Julie, of Branson, Missouri. Jetta was also very lucky to have a great friend, Lydia Alvarez that was like an "adopted" daughter, helping her so much in her final months.

Unfortunately, Jetta succumbed to Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC), which she fought bravely for the last five years. Jetta chose to donate her body to Baylor College of Medicine in hopes that they may use her body/tissues to help find a cure for IBC.

At this time, there are no planned services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations in Jetta's name to www.eraseibc.com, The Inflammatory Breast Cancer Foundation that works in conjunction with MD Anderson in Houston, Texas, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Reacherch Center, in Seattle, Washington.

Her family wishes to thank Dr. Rodgers and his staff at Texas Oncology, and the wonderful nurses and staff on 6-West, at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center. Your kindness to our mother and grandmother will never be forgotten.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
