Her parents were Charles Bradley, born in Pennsylvania, and Sarah Elizabeth, born in Missouri. (On the 1880 census, the birthplaces were shown as Ireland.) All their children were born in Texas. At the time of the 1870 census, the family lived in Dewitt County, Texas (post office Clinton), where her father farmed. She was married and living in DeWitt County, Texas at the time of the 1880 census.

Bridget married John Franklin Barnes about 1879. (John Franklin Barnes was born in Jan 1859 in Louisiana and died on 15 Nov 1914 in , Nolan County, Texas.)
