Swedes in Texas, page 219: "The widow AMANDA FRITHIOF. Among Austin's well-known families, we can also find the Frithiofs. The widow Amanda Frithiof, whose husband, Gustaf Victor Frithiof, died in Austin on Jan. 29, 1915, is the daughter of the well-known family, C. G. Widerstrom. She was born in Austin, Texas, in 1877, received a good education in home, school, and church and has lived there since then. She married in 1899. Her daughter, Victoria, born in Austin in 1900, has graduated from the city's high school in 1917 and from the Commercial Department of the Texas Wesleyan College in 1918. She is now a stenographer, as well as a notary public, and is active in the Swedish Methodist Church to which the family belongs. "Mr. Frithiof was from Lekeryd, Småland, where he was born in 1876. He immigrated to America in 1893. In Sweden he had learned the craft of the shoemaker, and this is the profession he worked in after his arrival in Austin. He soon got a position in The Bohn Brothers' store and was the manager of the shoe department. He was knowledgeable in his field, pleasant and friendly, gained many friends and was well liked by customers and superiors. He has one brother, August Free, living in Austin and one sister in Sweden." 1
Gustaf married Amanda Widerström, daughter of C. G. Widerström and Unknown, in 1899. (Amanda Widerström was born in 1877 in Austin, Travis County, Texas.)
