At the time of the 1930 census, he was a house painter living in Bertram, Burnet County, Texas. He rented his home for $6 a month. His occupation was listed as painter on his death certificate. The informant was William H. Stapleton.

Thomas married Lou Craven, daughter of Richard Walker Craven and Mary Ann Sylvester, about 1896. (Lou Craven was born on 3 Apr 1877 in , Travis County, Texas,⁷ died on 1 Apr 1939 in Marble Falls, Burnet County, Texas ⁷ and was buried on 2 Apr 1939 in Marble Falls City Cemetery, Marble Falls, Burnet County, Texas ⁷.). The cause of her death was influenza and cardiac asthma due to cardiac decompensation.⁵
