Elijah Davee

  General Notes:

Elijah Davee, 77-year-old resident of Wheeler, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M.N. Bradstreet, north of Wheeler last Sunday following an illness of about two weeks. Mr. Davee was in good health and went about his business of plowing small plots of ground for neighbors up until about two weeks ago when he suffered a stroke from which he never recovered.

Mr. Davee had been a resident of Wheeler for 30 years of his 77 years. He was born at Clifton, Bosque County, Texas on November 17, 1870 and passed away May 30, 1948 at the age of 77 years, 6 months and 12 days.

Mr. Davee was married to Miss Hattie Martin at Lampassas, Texas in 1895 and to this union were born four daughters al [sic] whom survive. Mrs. Davee preceded him in death about a year ago.

Survivors include: Mrs. M.N. Bradstreet of Wheeler, Mrs. Willie B. Tate of Shamrock, Mrs. Jack Jones of Amarillo, Mrs. Arnold Waldo of Littlefield, daughters; Oscar Tuttle, a nephew whom Mr. and Mrs. Davee reared, 21 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, J.T. and Joe Davee both of Goldwaithe [sic], 1 sister, Mrs. Susie Thocker of Leonard and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church of Wheeler Monday afternoon at 4:00 o'clock with Rev. M.B. Smith, pastor of Baptist Church officiating, assisted by Rev. E.C. Derr of Shamrock and B.M. Litton, Minister of the Church of Christ.

Interment was in the Wheeler Cemetery with Kirk-Mason Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pall bearers were: J.C. Moore, Jr., Bill Black, Bogan Griffin, Ben Griffin, Chris McClain and Albert Chapman.

Flower bearers were granddaughters of Mr. Davee and were: Mrs. Ruth Cochran, Nell Bradstreet, Floy Bradstreet, Joy Bradstreet, Nellie Exum, Jane Exum, Mrs. Helen Rogers, Meka Waldo and Armaldetta Waldo.

Elijah married Harriett Martin in 1895. (Harriett Martin was born in 1871 and died in 1947.)
