Jesse Calvert Moreland, son of Hugh Elmer and Leona Pearl Ross Moreland, was born at the home of his grandparents in the Pleasant Grove Community, November 21, 1915. He attended Goldthwaite schools and enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942. He was sent to the Pacific in 1944 and served with the 20th Air Force on Tinian, home of the Enola Gay. He returned to Goldthwaite and entered the grocery and feed business with his father. Jesse married Tina Madeline Dennis, 15 Oct 1938, and together they raised two children. In 1965, he joined the Texas Dept. of Agriculture as a Marketing Specialist. He and Madeline traveled the state promoting Texas Agriculture Products at county and state fairs, schools and shopping centers. They retired in 1981 and returned to Goldthwaite. Jesse was a life long member of the Methodist Church in Goldthwaite and at his death, 15 May 2001, he had been a member longer than any other member. He was also a 50+ year member of the local Lions Club and the Masonic Lodge. He served his community as a Volunteer Fireman, GISD School Board member and Boy Scout leader.
Jesse married Madeline Dennis, daughter of John Franklin Dennis and Armenda Frances Burdett, on 15 Oct 1938.
