Melvin E. Skaggs, just two days shy of his 88th birthday, peacefully passed away on August 8, 2020, at his home. He was born August 10, 1932, to Robert S. Skaggs and Ardell Joiner Skaggs in Iraan, Texas.
Melvin graduated from Gorman High School in 1950. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. After completing his faithful service to his country, Melvin was employed with El Paso Natural Gas as a Plant Operator for thirty-eight years until his retirement in the late 80's. After his retirement, he moved back home to De Leon and worked for First Baptist Church as the custodian for several years. Melvin was a long-time faithful member of De Leon First Baptist Church. He was a faithful servant of God and loved to study the Bible. He loved his church family dearly and enjoyed his fellowship with his Loyalty Sunday School Class.
Melvin enjoyed many hobbies including reading western books, watching western shows and game shows. He loved his dogs dearly and enjoyed having them by his side. His greatest joy came in spending time with his loving family and many dear friends. Melvin will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his committed caregiver and loving daughter, Tonia Tolle; brother, Lowell Skaggs and wife, Ethylene; sister, Margie Hale and husband, Argie; nieces and nephews, Gary Skaggs, Connie Moss, Larry Skaggs, Kristi Davis, Michael Hale, Lisa Corbell, Randy Skaggs, and Paul Skaggs; and other extended family. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; and brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Marinell Skaggs.
