Margaret Carroll Oden

  General Notes:

uneral services for Margaret Duren, 91, of Goldthwaite, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Goldthwaite, with Pastor Pat Glazener-Cooney officiating. Interment will follow at Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery.

Duren died Nov. 4, 2008, at a Gatesville hospital. She was born Aug. 1, 1917, in Mills County, to Walter Oden and Mary Carroll Oden.

She married Otis Ray Duren on May 17, 1947, in Goldthwaite. She had lived in Mills County all of her life.

Duren was a retired school teacher, and she was also retired from the Cattlemen's Association.

Her church affiliation was Methodist.

Duren was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mary Oden; her husband, Ray Duren; one brother, Earl Oden; and two sisters, Russie Ivy and Billie Lee.

She is survived by one daughter, Jo Ann Springer of Henderson, Nev.; one son, Gary Straley of Copperas Cove; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Florence Masters of Goldthwaite; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Glenn Benningfield, Tommy Head, Owen Yarborough, James Leonhard, Steve Patrick and Ed Massey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Milton Schwartz, Billy Stegall, Marvin Childress, Charles Spears, Glynn Collier, Thurman Head and Chet Meaney.

Margaret married Otis Ray Duren, son of Robert Conner Duren and Ada Lee Green, on 17 May 1947 in Goldthwaite, Mills County, Texas. (Otis Ray Duren was born on 18 Nov 1913, died on 31 Aug 1998 and was buried in Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery, Goldthwaite, Mills County, Texas.)
