Herman Farley Johnson
Herman Johnson of Goldthwaite, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 12, 2010 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 76 years old.

Herman was born September 8, 1933 in San Saba, Texas to Leon Joseph Johnson and Hazel Valrie Hibler Johnson. He graduated from Lometa High School in 1951. He met Frieda Ann Gillis at Sam Houston State University and they were married for 51 years. They lived and taught in Silsbee and Wharton before making a life-long home at their ranch in Goldthwaite in 1969. Herman is affiliated with First Baptist Church and made his living as a rancher, teacher and counselor. He attended A&M and Tarleton Universities. He graduated from Sam Houston State University. He served his country in the Army.

Graveside services were held Monday, March 15, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Doug Holtzclaw officiated with Butch Foster assisting. Interment was at Trigger Mountain Cemetery, Mills County, Texas.

Pallbearers included Gary Daniel, James Rollins, Robert Womack, William Hall, Clinton Wesson, Lawrence Ewell, Johnny DelaRosa and Jimmy Hughitt.

Herman is survived by his wife Frieda Johnson of Goldthwaite, Texas; children Donna Johnson of Goldthwaite, Dave Johnson and wife Andrea of Midland, Texas, Staci King and husband Landon of Sweetwater, Texas; daughter-in-law Rene Johnson of Goldthwaite. He is also survived by five beautiful grandchildren Kelsey and Landry Johnson of Goldthwaite; Balin, Brecken, and Brennan Reyes of Midland, Texas; sister Yvonne Childress and husband Charles of Goldthwaite; sister-in-law Jane Ann Johnson of Goldthwaite; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Herman was a wonderful father and husband and loved spending many hours with his friends on the golf course. He dedicated much of the past 15 years running a home for mentally challenged men and helping others in the community. He will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents Leon and Hazel Johnson, and his twin brother Thurman Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Goldthwaite Municipal Golf Course or Goldthwaite Volunteer Fire Department.
