Rhonda Massey, of Abilene, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2008 at the age of 78.
Visitation will be today, Tuesday, April 15, from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Church of Christ Chapel, 650 East Ambler. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. Charles Perkins and Cam Hurst will officiate. Burial will follow in the Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery, in Goldthwaite, Texas at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
October 15, 1929, Rhonda was born in Mullin, Texas to Ozell and Eve (Davee) Robinson. Rhonda married C. R. Massey, Jr. The couple had a double wedding with their good friends, J. D. and Dorothy Crowder, on June 7, 1947 in Goldthwaite, Texas. The small wedding consisted of the two couples and a preacher. In their early years of marriage, C. R. and Rhonda lived in Goldthwaite, Big Lake, and San Angelo. After moving to San Angelo, Rhonda heard that the preacher that had married them was preaching at the Fairground Road Church of Christ in San Angelo. She began attending services and heard the gospel preached. After studying her Bible, she obeyed the gospel and put Christ on in baptism. She encouraged C. R. to attend the worship assemblies with her. Because of her faithfulness, Godly life and Godly influence, C. R. began attending with her and later obeyed the gospel. Rhonda's initial step of faith, from a heart that desired to please God, has influenced not only her husband, but her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and they are very thankful.
Rhonda is survived by her husband, C. R. Massey, Jr., of Abilene; two sons, Ronnie Massey and his wife Marilyn of Clifton, Texas, Bruce Massey and his wife Pam, of Abilene; one sister, Lavena Jones of Georgetown, Texas; four grandchildren, Brittany Harris, Misty Benton, Julie Hansen, and Brad Massey, and six great-grandchildren.
Brad Massey, Jay Hansen, Jeff Harris, Jeff Benton, Jim Bryan, Steve Conley, and Kenny Horner will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made in Rhonda Massey's honor to Hendrick Hospice Care, 1682 Hickory, Abilene, Texas 79601, or to the donor's favorite charity.
