Texas Cowboy Shot After Quarrel in Arizona Camp.

Prescott, Oct. 30 - Porter Francher, foreman of the Big Ora Ranch, was charged with murder Thursday in the rangeland shooting of Herman Davis, 39, Goldthwaite, Tex., cowboy and top rider of the Green Cattle Company's fall roundup.
Davis was shot through the chest Wednesday as other members of the roundup crew squatted on their heels, drinking coffee around a campfire on the Baca Land Grant.
Francher, 50, and Davis exchanged hot words over the foreman's order to wrangle horses, Sheriff Willis Butler said he was told.
"Francher said he was slapped down by Davis during the argument," County Attorney Sam J. Head reported. "Francher went to the ranch house and got his gun. On meeting Davis, Francher told him that if he would apologize, he wouldn't kill him. Davis approached and Francher fired."
Davis fell dead, a rolled cigarette still between his lips.
