JD Hunt, 98, of Star, passed away Jan. 24, 2024, in Goldthwaite.
Hunt was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Lampasas County, to Tom Hunt and Ruby Newton Hunt. He married Cleta Cleo Black Oct. 26, 1946, in Goldthwaite, and lived in Mills County most of his life. He was a member of the Star Baptist Church and had many years of employment at Star school and school board. He was a champion popcorn popper. He also worked as a rancher and farmer, and served with the Marines in World War II.
Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 28. with services Monday, Jan. 29. at Stacy Wilkins Chapel in Goldthwaite, and interment at Payne Gap Cemetery in Mills County. David Crosby officiated. Pallbearers were Edward Sanders, Doug Hunt, Kyle Hunt, Clinton Hunt Daniel Hunt and Richard Hunt.
Hunt is survived by his sons, Darrell Hunt and Melynn of Moline, Robert Hunt of Star, Marvin Hunt and Sherri of Jonestown; his grandchildren Doug Hunt, Kyle Hunt, Misty Simpson, Serena Dickey, Kayla Allmon, Clinton Hunt, Daniel Hunt, Richard Hunt; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Hunt and Ruby Newton Hunt; wife, Cleta Cleo Black Hunt; grandson, Damon Hunt; brothers Odell Hunt and Roland Sperry.
