Edgar L. "Ed" Leonhard

Funeral services for Edgar L. "Ed" Leonhard, age 90, of Brownwood, were held at 2 p.m., Sunday April 7, in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Medley officiating. Burial followed in the Goldthwaite Memorial Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Mr. Leonhard died April 2, 2019, in Brownwood.

Edgar Leroy Leonhard was born on November 19, 1928 in Copperas Cove to Hans and Emma (Groth) Leonhard. He served in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1953, during the Korean War. On September 4, 1953, he married Melba Conner in Goldthwaite. Ed went to work for the U.S.D.A Soil Conservation Service shortly thereafter. His career took him and the family to various stops around Texas, Temple, Brady and Coleman, before settling in Brownwood in 1968. He retired in 1985 after 30 years of service.

Ed was also active in Central Methodist Church where he taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and held various leadership positions. He also enjoyed spending time on the farm in Mills County, working word find puzzles and being with family.

Ed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Melba, of Brown-wood, three children, John Leonhard and wife Linda of Andrews, Danny Leonhard of Abilene and Cindy Thames of Snyder; six grandchildren, Christy Seiber and husband Josh, Marisha Brizendine and husband P.J., Andrew Leonhard, Kelsey Templeton and husband Kolby, David Thames and wife Lacey and Chris Thames and wife Lind-say; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers, James Leonhard of Goldthwaite and Walter Leonhard of Manchester, New Hampshire.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother George Leonhard.
